BlackBerry software roadmap

The roadmap for Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry software future has tipped up online, showing two updates to BIS this year and a new version of BlackBerry OS slated for the end of the year.
While the roadmap, originally obtained by the BlackBerry fan site N4BB, didn’t contain too many surprises, many found it refreshing to know that along with new and improved hardware, RIM was also making an effort to come up with the software goods.
The first tweak to BIS is set to land between March and April, in the form of 4.0, with version 4.1 scheduled for August/September.
The roadmap also confirms the launch of App World for the PlayBook tablet sometime in March, along with BlackBerry built Facebook and Twitter apps this month too.
With phones like the codenamed Dakota/Montana, Malibu, Apollo/Sedona, Monaco and Torch 2 all due out this year too, it’s no surprise RIM is leveraging its software team from QNX to get BlackBerry OS 7 launched by November, but whether we’ll see it on handsets before 2012 remains to be seen.
